Editorial Assistant

This is a full-time position available in Paducah, Kentucky. Computer experience with a PC and the following programs is required: Word, Excel, and Photoshop. The Editorial Assistant must be detail oriented, well organized, able to multi-task, and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. The position provides assistance for two or more editors in a deadline-driven environment. Some travel required. Some of the major responsibilites are listed below:

Responsibilities to Executive Book Editor

  • Maintain Fabric Company Database
  • Prepare Publication Release Schedules for Spring/Fall Seasons
  • Assist Executive Book Editor in preparing Spring/Fall Presentations
  • File Cataloging in Publication applications with the Library of Congress
  • Prepare Errata for placement on Website
  • Attend Editorial meetings and prepare minutes
  • Maintain Proofreaders Guide
  • Post Book Reviews on Website and send out books for review
  • Send complimentary copies of books to authors
  • Prepare show packets as needed
  • Other clerical duties as requested

Responsibilities to Magazine Editor-in-Chief

  • Work with contributing editors on proofreading, contacts, and appropriate releases and permissions.
  • Prepare priority list and copies of articles for selection meeting
  • Schedule and attend all magazine meetings. Prepare minutes for meetings.
  • Construct author pay lists.
  • Coordinate comp copy mailings with Editor and Data Entry
  • Contact authors for items needed
  • Obtain quilts and other items for photography
  • Prepare contracts and mail out to author along with appropriate permission forms as directed by editor.
  • Send page proofs to authors
  • Return materials to authors once magazine is printed
  • Place “Reader’s Quilts” on Website
  • Place patterns and web bonuses on Website as directed by Editor-in-Chief
  • Process copyright permission requests and obtain applicable permissions for all articles
  • Prepare show packets as needed for editors and National Accounts Managers
  • Other clerical duties as requested

Photography Responsibilities for Magazine and Books

  • Act as liaison between the photographer and the editors
  • Contact the quiltmaker directly to arrange to have the quilt shipped into AQS
  • Schedule dates for arrival, photography, and return of all items
  • Prepare quilts for return shipment to quiltmaker
  • Log items in and take items to the photographer
  • Verify items from photographer's contact sheet and rename digital files if necessary
  • Inform designers of image file location on server
  • Label transparencies and slides as necessary
  • Coordinate photography of Quilt Art Engagement Calendars, obtain necessary permission forms and maintain database.

Customer Service Representative

We are expanding our customer service department. If you enjoy helping others, this job is for you! Your main responsibility will be to process orders and assist customers and AQS members with their accounts. Most of your day will consist of taking phone orders. Some filing and other clerical duties are also required. The perfect candidate must communicate professionally by phone, mail, fax, and email. Knowledge of Word and Excel programs is helpful along with the willingness to learn new programs. Some travel may be required. This is a full-time position in Paducah, Kentucky.

Event Staff

Job Requirements

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work independently with accuracy
  • Works well with others in a team atmosphere
  • Computer knowledge and willingness to learn other computer programs (Word, Excel, FileMaker Pro & event registration software)
  • Detail oriented (accuracy in typing, proofing copy, working with numbers)
  • Coordinate mailings related to the events
  • Assist with handling registrations for events
  • Handle telephone, mail, faxed and e-mail communications professionally

Qualifications

  • Minimum of high school degree, some college preferred
  • Quilting/sewing background helpful but not required
  • At least five years office experience preferred
  • Applicant must be able to work in Paducah, Kentucky
  • Some travel required

PROOFREADER

Responsibilities:

  • Proofread all printed materials created by AQS including show books, registration guides, copyright permissions, marketing copy, ads, rack cards, catalogs, calendars, quilt patterns, quilt booklets, book-length manuscripts, and other materials.
  • Follow AQS guidelines and style sheets.
  • Complete tasks on deadline.
  • Other duties as required for AQS to fulfill its mission.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Quilt related knowledge and experience required. Demonstrated ability to fact check and test pattern and instruction math.
  • Excellent written language skills.
  • Good interpersonal relations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word on PC or Mac computers.

This full-time position is located in Paducah, Kentucky; no telecommuting or working remotely. A cover letter and resume should demonstrate proofreading experience, quilting knowledge, and be accompanied by work samples (before and after copy if possible). Quilt related experience and some travel are required. Position is available immediately. Include sufficient return postage to have materials returned.

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Graphic design position available. Extensive knowledge in Adobe CS4 with a main focus on InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop on a Mac platform is required. Web design experience is a plus. Job description includes, but is not limited to, creating page layouts for company publications and designing merchandise such as T-shirts and other souvenir items. Some travel is required. This is a full-time position in Paducah, Kentucky.
