About AQS: Staff Biographies

Terry Guill, Director of Show Operations Terry Guill, Director of Show Operations

Terry Guill has been with the Schroeders for over 32 years, beginning in the warehouse for Collector Books and becoming more and more involved with quilt show operations from the first AQS Paducah show in 1985.

As much as two years advance planning goes into every show. He and Executive Show Director Bonnie Browning have traveled to check out our new sites in Phoenix, Chattanooga, and Charleston. Currently he’s busy implementing plans for all these locations, in addition to working on the exciting changes for future Paducah, Des Moines, and Lancaster shows.

During the shows, Terry considers himself a fireman, “putting out fires wherever they happen.” He is just about the first one to arrive in the mornings and the last one to leave at night, often helping one of the teachers carry her bags on his way out the door.

The biggest change in show operations over the years has been the use of computer software to map out the vendor booth locations and just where and how the quilts are hung. “In the past, there’d be times I’d be up at 11:30 the night before the Paducah show, writing in the numbers of all the quilts, then discover I missed one, and have to erase everything and start over! The computer program has made the biggest difference in our planning.”

A Paducah native, Terry has five children with his lovely wife Jill.

If you want to hear about the history of our quilt shows (to date he’s worked on all of them), then sit down with Terry and prepare to be fascinated. That is, if you can catch him.
