About AQS: Staff Biographies
Elaine Wilson, Graphics Designer
Graphic designer Elaine Wilson is into big numbers. One of the original AQS book designers, she’s been with us since June of 1991. Married to Larry for 35 years, Elaine is the eldest of 9 children, and designer of more books than we can count up. About the only small number she deals with is the number 2—she has 2 grown, twin sons and 2 dogs, thanks to the need to baby sit her sister’s dog for a year.
Elaine notes that the advances in design software have kept pace with the advances in quiltmaking. “It’s easier to be creative with the tools we have today (a sentiment quilters can understand!)—from black and white to four-color printing, from slides and transparencies to digital photography, from early design programs to the versatility and functionality available today.”
An avid reader and subscriber of a surprising number of publications, her design interests extend beyond the printed page to her home and—happily for her family, friends, and co-workers—party planning. She’s been known to pull off a wedding with just one week’s notice that looked like it had been planned for months! Elaine also designed the exhibit of fashion winners at the Paducah show each year.
