Lone J. Minkkinen
Lone worked as a graphic designer for numerous years, and she later devoted her passion for design and art into painting. While Lone was working as an artist painting murals and portraits, she was introduced to the craft of quilting. The well known attraction to fabrics and “everything-quilting” soon filled the shelves of Lone’s studio, and the soothing sound of a sewing machine filled her home. The abundance of fabrics avaliable gave Lone enough to choose from while making her quilts. However, wanting to personalize her quilts further, the actual quilting of the layers offered her more ways to incorporate favorites or character traits of the ones she made the quilts for.
Inspired on her walks and horseback rides in her native Denmark and in the State Parks of Michigan, she began developing her own quilting designs. Her sketch book quickly filled with continuous line frivolities, as did the quilts she sewed. One of Lone’s critters, a little sheep, caught the attention of Andi Reynolds, AQS. This led to the publishing of Lone’s drawings in her first book, “Quilting Designs from Nature”. This book was featured as “Staff Picks” in the December/January 2012 issue of “Quilters Newsletter”.
Lone teaches quilting classes, sews and draws in Michigan, where she lives with her husband, two children and their pets.
