Karen Combs

Karen Combs

A Michigan native, Karen began quilting in 1973 while still in high school. She has a degree in library science and worked at many state, city, and school libraries before finding her calling as a professional quilting instructor, writer, and designer. She is known for taking a traditional pattern and giving it her own unique twist. Karen is intrigued with quilts of illusions and has been designing quilts with a 3-D look for several years. Karen designs fabrics for Blank Quilting, has appeared on numerous television shows, and has shown her work at multiple venues and in national publications. She was nominated for Teacher of the Year in 1995, 2000, and in 2005 and travels nationwide to teach her techniques and methods. Karen now lives in the rolling hills of middle Tennessee with her husband Rick, daughter Angela and son Josh (when they are home from college), and a very sweet Shih Tzu named Cocoa.

Pepper Cory

Pepper Cory has been a quiltmaker since 1972. In addition, she designs templates, stencils, and fabrics for quilters. The author of two classic books of quilting designs, "Quilting Designs from the Amish" and "Quilting Designs from Antique Quilts," Pepper has published numerous other books and articles. Her third book, the ground-breaking design text "Crosspatch," 1989, inspired readers to take their first steps in contemporary quilt design. She also researched the Drunkard's Path pattern in "Happy Trails," 1991, and signature blocks in "The Signature Quilt," coauthored with Susan McKelvey. "Mastering Quilt Marking," 1999, is considered a classic on the subject. She began teaching quilting as the owner of Culpepper's Quilts in East Lansing, Michigan, and continues to travel and teach internationally, sharing her expertise and love of quilting. With her husband, Rod, Pepper lives on the North Carolina coast where they share their home with a pair of lucky cats who double as bookends and quilt testers.

Kay Capps Cross

Kay Capps Cross

A foray into black-and-white fabrics helped Kay Capps Cross set her creativity free. These neutral values have been instrumental in developing her style. Kay started sewing at a young age, and her back-to-school shopping was a trip to the fabric store for yardage and patterns. A visit to a quilt shop in the late 1990s set the course for her career in quiltmaking, teaching, and pattern design. Residing in Minnesota, Kay markets her patterns internationally.
