Kathryn Schmidt

Kathryn Schmidt

After creating hundreds of quilts over the past 35 years, Kathryn Schmidt wants to break free of all the rules, and she wants to bring you along with her. She believes that everyone can be a fearless quilt designer with just a bit of creativity and a good sense of adventure.

Kathy loves to teach and focuses her efforts on contemporary designs. She is involved in a lifelong love affair with colors and beautiful fabrics that she hopes will never end. Her patterns are marketed through her company, Quirks, Ltd. (quirksltd@yahoo.com).

Kathy lives in Michigan with her husband, Keith. They have two grown and married children and one grandson. She is approaching retirement from her job-that-pays-the-bills and will celebrate when she has more quilting time.

Rose Schutte

Rose Schutte

Rose became interested in quilting when her sister, Kathy, suggested she "make her own quilt" as she struggled to find a commercial bedspread she liked when she redecorated her son's bedroom. Kathy supplied her with fabric and a simple pattern. Upon finishing the quilt, Rose was hooked! That same year she made six more. Color, textures, and patterns have always interested this recently retired public school art teacher, so quilting has become another art form for her. Other hobbies are oil painting, making pottery, and traveling. Rose and her husband, Mike, live on a farm in northeast Iowa. They have an adult daughter and an adult son.
