Here's a great way to create applique patterns from photos. It's like transforming your sewing room into a darkroom. You won't believe how realistic-looking this technique will make your fabric images. Even quilters with no art training can expect to have success, and the photos of student quilts prove that everybody can. Learn what to look for in a photo and how to get a good photograph to use for a fabric portrait. Detailed instructions tell how to make a pattern from a photograph. There's even a section on using photo editing software to create a pattern. Review of Fabric Photo Play Love to Quilt Series - 07/15/2005
Reviewer: Anonymous from Paducah, KY, US

I must admit I am very fascinated by this book. After reading it, I think I could actually create one of these quilts. I am a visual learner, and there are enough graphics to walk me through the process. We are guided through the whole process, first by doing everything manually. Then Julia shows us how to use your graphics program to do some of the basic work. We learn how to see areas of light and dark in photo's. How shadows in photographs could be different shades of light and dark. She calls the process "Shadow Portraits". I'm definitely going to try this technique. It's on my list of "to do". -- Nine Patch News, May 7, 2005
