    Reviews

This book by Susan Stewart is great! I am already planning to make some of the projects featured in the book. The heirloom sewing techniques are clearly written and the pictures illustrating each step were clear and easy to follow. I would reccommend this book to any sewer interested in heirloom techniques on items other than childrens or adult clothing. -Rose Sabia

Review of Heirloom Machine Sewing for Quilters - 07/20/2008
Reviewer: British Patchwork & Quilting from UK

This is a book for those interested in producing delicate quilts embellished with lace and netting. It begins with a comprehensive list of suitable lightweight fabrics and their properties. Susan prefers pure cotton antique lace from France and England and gives recommendations on threads and needles, as well as washing and starching these fragile materials. The techniques taught deal with handling lace and netting. The author uses water-soluble thread for basting/tacking to stop pins catching in the layers. The nine projects range from delightful baby bonnets to a 90” square bed quilt, all with quilting suggestions. There are templates to aid placement of the lace and many helpful tips throughout.
