    Margaret Docherty has to be one of the finest quilters around, and certainly one of the most organized and disciplined. This book is no exception. The information is complete, the pictures delightful, and her humor is evident. It is a less complex quilt than Little Brown Bird, not as deeply artistic, but for those who enjoy tulips and the Pennsylvania Dutch "look", you couldn't do better than this beautiful selection.     Tulips are one of the first flowers to greet the warm spring sunshine and Margaret Docherty’s new book “Hearts & Tulips Appliqué Masterpiece” reflects the bright and cheerful colors of tulips in the Spring. You will remember Margaret as the award-winning author of “Little Brown Bird Patterns” and “Birds ‘n’ Roses”. This bold and colorful collection of folk-art style birds, hearts, and tulips takes it’s inspiration from traditional Pennsylvania Dutch folk art. You will find yourself using these patterns for years to come in all kinds of projects. The finished quilt size is 68" x 68" and the 36 full-size 8" block patterns can easily be reduced and enlarged to fit your needs. There are also two other patterns for the border. The quilt featured in the book was done entirely by machine appliqué, but you can also do this using hand appliqué if you would prefer.     "Hearts and Tulips-Appliqué Masterpiece" by Margaret Docherty is the third in the Appliqué Masterpiece series by the author. Gardeners who quilt will love these 42 original designs. Each design has full-size templates, a list of fabrics, and step-by-step instructions for doing the appliqué and embroidery. The author also suggests uses for each block.     What a wonderful book! I have been searching for one like this for some time and when I finally found it advertised I knew I had to have it. When I received it, I realized that it would definitely be my next project. I can't wait to get started. The illustrations and designs are immeasurable and the quilt is exquisite.
