The creativity, imagination, and skill of today's quilters are showcased in this collection of spectacular quilts. The popular New Quilts from an Old Favorite contest, sponsored annually by The National Quilt Museum of Paducah, Kentucky, has once again brought out the best efforts of the contestants. The top winners and semifinalists are all featured, describing their inspiration and the design of their quilts, each an original variation on the classic Burgoyne Surrounded block. Meet each of the quilters as they describe their background, quilting experience, and working methods. Follow their progress from inspiration to completion through their original drawings and in-process photographs. Information about and photographs of the museum itself enhance this annual favorite, now in its 15th year! Other titles in this popular contest series are Sawtooth, Rose of Sharon, Dresden Plate, Seven Sisters, Monkey Wrench, Feathered Star, Tumbling Block, Bear s Paw, Storm at Sea, Kaleidoscope, Pineapple, Mariner s Compass, Ohio Star, and Log Cabin.
Reviews
Burgoyne Surrounded is a collection of the finest interpretations of the traditional block, chosen from the entries in the 2009 National Quilt Museum contest, "New Quilts from an Old Favorite." The resulting quilts are extraordinary in both design and skill. The book takes roughly a dozen of these quilts and lets the artists first describe their artistic background, and then explain, in some depth, how they arrived at their designs, and how the quilts were made....-Caroline Lamb

If you are looking for inspiration, the "New Quilts from Old Favorites" series will fill the bill. If you are looking for actual patterns to make the quilts featured... well keep looking. There are some patterns but nothing overly exciting!
I love the book for all the fresh bright ideas and the quilter's journey with making/designing their quilts.
