    Garden Nouveau Quilts - 01/19/2010
Reviewer: James A. Cox from Oregon, WI, USA

GARDEN NOUVEAU QUILTS offers Vicky Lawrence’s original designs and patterns in a series of handwork appliqué designs inspired by nature that can be fused for quicker results. Beginners learn the basics of appliqué while those more advanced find clear patterns and new directions in a series of seven very different projects from bolsters and totes to bed-size quilts. --James A. Cox, The Midwest Book Review, "The Bookwatch," January 2010.

I have had the honor of having my quilt 'Little Vicky' featured in Vicky's book. I received the patterns month by month as she designed them for her local quilt guild. While the patterns look like they might be designed for intermediate to advanced appliquers any single pattern can be intigrated in so many ways that might appeal to even beginning applique. I had hours and hours of quilting enjoyment from the patterns in this book. I chose to reduce the patterns 1/3 scale in order to hone my applique skills and I will admit it was tedious at times. I am at this time working on a 100% size quilt using machine applique technique and homespun type woven plaid fabrics. I am very happy with the results on the blocks I have completed.

I've seen a couple of the samples and they are fabulous. I'm so excited this book is finally being published. Can't wait to get mine!
