    Appliqué in Reverse - 05/26/2010
    Reviewer: Connie Krochmal from USA

“Appliqué in Reverse” by Teri Henderson Tope features 13 gorgeous appliquéd flower and plant blocks along with two patterns for the borders. Among the flowers are spring favorites like the tulip and daffodil as well as summer classics like the iris and the geranium. One block features a lovely bumble bee. The ivy and the calla lily designs could be used throughout the year. Projects include four wallhangings along with a quilt made from flower blocks. This title also features details on doing the borders and the quilting. An appliqué template is included for each design. Complete, color illustrated instructions for all of the blocks and projects are included along with in-depth details on doing the dimensional appliqué as well as the quilting. There is also a quilt gallery showing items made from the blocks. These items include a tote, flower clock, banner, and wallhangings. --Connie Krochmal, BellaOnline, http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art66201.asp

Create dramatic looks with this classy technique. - 05/19/2010

The author’s secret? Use large pieces of background fabric for easier handling. Even narrow bias stems will be easier to manage! Recreate Teri's award-winning quilt, “Garden Nouveau,” with patterns for the 13 blocks and two borders, or use the individual blocks in one of nine additional projects including table runners, wallhangings, and a tote bag. The photo gallery showcases the creativity of the author and her friends and will inspire out to give Teri’s techniques a try. --Quilters Newsletter Magazine, June/July 2010, page 47.

    Appliqué in Reverse - 04/30/2010
Reviewer: Patti Ives, The Appliqué Society from Sequim, WA, USA

Teri Henderson Tope’s book “Appliqué in Reverse” uses her intricate hand-appliqué made fast and easy method and it is a stunner. Of course reverse appliqué is one of my favorite techniques. I think it is because most of the time one uses black fabric and the color layer underneath really pops against that black. I asked Teri if she has anything she would like to say about the book and she replied, “My goal in writing this book was to encourage creativity, so please take these patterns and give them your own personal touch.” Teri says this book is for both beginner and advanced stitchers. Teri’s secret is to use large pieces of background fabric underneath the appliqué designs for easier handling. You will find tiny seam allowances are a thing of the past using Teri’s methods. After walking you through the basics of reverse appliqué preparation, Teri then demonstrates how to reverse appliqué. The photos are clear –– you can see exactly what she is talking about step-by-step. Teri’s beautiful quilt “Nouveau Garden” 65"x75" is featured in the book and all 13 block patterns and two borders are also included. You will need to enlarge the patterns 200% but the Art Nouveau patterns are well worth it. There are also nine additional projects for you to try using one or more of the patterns found in the book. -- Patti Ives, Editor, "The Appliqué Society" newsletter, March/April 2010, Volume 13, No. 4, page 12.

Teri Henderson Tope’s “Appliqué in Reverse” tells how to make detailed hand appliqué using large pieces of background fabric underneath appliqué designs. It’s a technique that does away with small seams and sewing challenges, offering a range of designs for creating unique dimensional results. --James A. Cox, Editor-in-Chief, The Midwest Book Review, The Needlecraft Shelf, March 2010.

    Appliqué in Reverse - 03/08/2010

I am fascinated by Panamanian molas and have an entire collection, some of which I have incorporated into quilts and wallhangings. Reading Terri Tope's book has made the fascinating technique of reverse appliqué very clear to me. I have watched the Kuna Indians make molas but was never quite certain how to proceed on my own which I have wanted to do for some time now. With this eminently clear and practical instruction manual, I feel that the process has been demystified for me! I have not yet put together a block, but will soon, and I know I will be successful because the illustrations are so clear and the instructions so precise.
