    Description

A selection of historical quilts has inspired a second collection by the authorof floral quilting patterns suitable for classic or contemporary quiltmaking. The pieced Triple Irish Chain and Carolina Lily appliqué quilts - with their plain alternate blocks - were the perfect source for the large block motifsin this series. The curvy stems, feathers, and folk-art flowers are all unique in shape, meant to fit into the 'nook-and-cranny' formed between appliqué and piecing. A true sampler of patterns, lovingly traced directly from pre-Civil War quilts, graces this book. These were shared between quilters in an era before commercially printed patterns were available. Some of these patterns are published for the first time in this collection. Each is redrafted and drawn accurately to today's use. Full-sized, authentic, antique quilting designs are made available for quilters of reproduction quilts as well as for historians documenting designs.

More Antique Quilting Designs contains more designs than one can imagine –– 85 in all. This features ones for pieced and appliquéd quilts. The use of these designs is by no means limited to quilting for they are also suitable for fabric painting, stenciling, appliqué, and other types of crafts. The author draws on six historical quilts that contain these motifs or designs. For each one, there is a full color illustration and a story behind each of the quilts. Roberta Benvin’s More Antique Quilting Designs provides patterns to reproduce an antique quilt. Six historical quilts have inspired these patterns and are suitable for both fusible appliqué and embroidery and fabric painting. The large block motifs are lovely. A top pick.
