Caroline Price covers three special types of applique: 3D, bias, and reverse - 03/28/2009
    Reviewer: Connie Krochmal from USA

Caroline Price carefully explains what supplies and sewing aids are needed for machine applique and how to properly apply the appliques with the recommended machine stitches. This title has nine, fresh and appealing, applique projects, including one for Valentine's Day and seasonal projects for summer and fall. There are simple, color illustrated, step-by-step directions for all the techniques and projects. For each project, there is a chart showing what fabrics and supplies you'll need, and a cutting chart along with easy instructions for completing the quilt top. The appendix contains all the basics on quilting, such as assembling the quilt layers, doing the quilting, and binding the edges.

Review of Love to Machine Appliqué - 12/20/2008
Reviewer: British Patchwork & Quilting from United Kingdom

A book written for beginners to machine appliqué but with tips for experienced quilters. The methods used when using freezer paper, fusible web, glue and stabilizers are explained clearly with words and photos. A chapter on special techniques covers bias and reverse appliqué and 3D appliqué using organza and net. She has an interesting suggestion for 3-D shapes, cut out with pinking shears so, after stitching, when they are turned right side out, they will have smooth edges. The appliqué shapes are often stitched twice, once to secure them, the second row is decorative. There are nine projects, wallhangings and quilts, accompanied by templates. My choice as book of the month.

Any newcomer to machine appliqué who wishes to get started quickly will find extensive discussion of techniques, tools, stitches and shapes in “Love to Machine Appliqué: A Medley of Techniques.” From using 3-D appliqué and working with bias strips to reverse appliqué, this book offers all the tools needed to make the “Love Affair” quilt and master skills needed in nine sample projects with beginners in mind.

“Love to Machine Appliqué” is a book that I found to be a pretty broad manual for those of us who haven’t yet mastered the art of machine appliqué and it is generous with tips for those of you who think you have. I really appreciate that it goes over all of the tools that you might need to begin the machine appliqué process. But this kind of book is for those of us who what to jump in and do it––all of it––now!

Review of Love to Machine Appliqué - 08/20/2008
Reviewer: The Professional Quilter from Latonsville, Maryland, USA

Caroline Price has always been attracted to appliqué quilts, but dreaded the hand sewing so she adapted everything she did to the machine. She covers four ways to prepare your appliqué pieces (freezer paper with glue, freezer paper without glue, facing the shape with a water-soluble stabilizer, using double-sided fusible web), six ways to stitch your appliqué (blind hem stitch, satin stitch, blanket stitch, grass stitch, free motion stitching, twin needling) and special techniques (bias tape appliqué, reverse appliqué, 3-D appliqué). She has one quilt project that uses all the techniques and then another eight that use just a few.
