    Description

From the English countryside to your quilt come 33 original wildflower appliqué designs enhanced with embroidery details by Master Quilter's Guild member Zena Thorpe. An award-winning quilter, Zena first used these designs in her fabulous quilt, OUT OF THE STRONG CAME FORTH SWEETNESS. Her recollections of long walks in her native England inspired her botanically correct designs. And these aren't all ordinary wildflowers. These unusual offerings will expand any quilter's appliqué repertoire and the more familiar wildflowers will strengthen it. Included are basic hand appliqué and embroidery techniques. The purpose of the book is to provide these wildflower patterns so quilters can adapt them to their own work, but instructions for 1 wallhanging are also included.

Beautiful Wild Flower Appliqué - 11/30/2011
Reviewer: Patti Ives, The Appliqué Newsletter from USA

Award winning quilt artist Zena Thorpe has just published a book for everyone that loves appliqué. Zena presents 32 full-sized original appliqué patterns that pay homage to the wildflower. Some of the rarely seen blooms include Mountain Pansy, Bog Asphodel, Sundew and Wild Alum. My favorite is the clover. The patterns are botanically correct, appliquéd flowers that are enhanced with embroidered details. It is the details that sometimes take an ordinary appliquéd flower and elevates it to a spectacular appliquéd flower. Many of the flowers are dimensional and the instructions for creating them are detailed and clearly written. The embroidery stitches used in the patterns are also well documented. Use these patterns for your own projects including clothing, home décor and floral quilts. There are also complete instructions for a 17 1/4” x 17” wall hanging that incorporates many of the flowers in the book. I invite you to look through a copy of this book, you will truly understand why this is one book of patterns and instructions everyone will want in their library. --Patti Ives, Editor, The Appliqué Society Newsletter, Nov/Dec 2011— Volume 15 - Number 2, Page 16.

Dimensional Flowers, embroidery and more - 09/06/2011
    Reviewer: Anonymous from Marietta, GA

Not your average garden of applique. Embroidered stamens, stems, and even thorns, add texture. Ruffled daffodil petals, gathered bluebells, and a "raggedy" dandelion, add dimension. One would be lovely on a journal for a naturalist. Lots would be stunning quilt. Impressive techniques with nice instructions.

Wild Flower Appliqué by Zena Thorpe - 08/02/2011
    Reviewer: Vivian Benton from Pittsburgh

Who knew wild flowers could be so beautiful! Well, apparently Zena Thorpe did. What I really like about this book is she doesn’t give you any overwhelming appliqué quilt projects---just flowers! You can combine any number of flowers into one quilt or just make small wallhangings with one or two. And the embroidery details add just the right finishing touch. I love hand appliqué and can’t wait to try some of these flowers.
