Senator McConnell makes time to visit NQM during visit to Paducah
by Susan Edwards, Marketing Director
Paducah, Ky., August 25, 2010 — The National Quilt Museum welcomed Senator Mitch McConnell, the Senate Republican Leader in the 111th Congress, who took time out of his busy schedule in Paducah to visit The National Quilt Museum. McConnell and U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield were instrumental in obtaining the designation of “National Quilt Museum” in 2008.
“We couldn’t have done it without their help.” Said May Louise Zumwalt, NQM Executive Director. “This is the first time Senator McConnell has visited the museum since we received the designation. And it is particularly timely since with have ‘A Horse’s Tale’ exhibit up celebrating Kentucky’s holding of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington in September.”
The National Quilt Museum’s “A Horse’s Tale” exhibit honors Kentucky as the first site outside of Europe to host the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. The horse themed exhibit runs now through November 16, 2010. Designated as The National Quilt Museum of the United States, NQM is a non-profit institution located at 215 Jefferson Street in downtown Paducah, Ky. The Museum is open year-round Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. CST. The Museum is also open on Sundays 1 – 5 p.m. April – October. The National Quilt Museum is ADA compliant.
