AQS Author Named HMQS Teacher of the Year

Congratulations Pam Clarke!

by Sylvia J. Thomas

American Quilter's Society author Pam Clarke has been awarded the first-ever "Teacher of the Year" award from the Home Machine Quilting Show (HMQS). This award, sponsored by On Point Training & Development, Eureka Documentation, HMQS Show Management and Ruby River Steakhouse, will become an annual tradition of HMQS. Pam is the author of "Quilting Inside the Lines: Machine & Frame Quilting" (AQS 2007).

Pam was honored during a ceremony for the extraordinary level of professinalism, talent and knowledge she has offered her students. "Pam is the kind of teacher who puts the students at ease. She is excellent at what she teaches, and most importantly, is excellent at instilling that knowledge and confidence in her students. She is a master teacher," says Ann Collet, HMQS Show Director and Founder.

A dynamo in the quilting world, Pam is the owner of the Log Cabin Dry Goods quilt shop and Home Stitches, a professional longarm quilting business. To date, she has quilted over 7,000 quilts! In addition, she has made hundreds of her own quilts. Her favorite kind of quilting is to mix appliqué with simple, scrappy-look piecing, a style that has won her numerous ribbons. Pam developed her “Designs with Lines” machine quilting technique to speed up marking tops. Her stencils, videos, and sketchbooks are full of ideas to go along with her stencils and are available from her Home Stitches Web site. Pam grew up in Sacramento, California, and now lives in Spokane, Washington. She has appeared on "Quilt Central" and with Linda Taylor on PBS television.

HMQS is a consumer exhibition and educational conference for all machine quilters and embroiders.
