Executive Inn Demolition Begins

Tuesday, November 16, 2010, Paducah, Ky. - After months of preparation, the Executive Inn Hotel is finally coming down. On November 9, 2010, the ceremonial cutting of a beam marked the start of demolition.

Mayor Bill Paxton was elated that demolition was finally beginning. “It is an exciting day for Paducah,” Paxton said at the ceremony. “We’ve been trying to find someone to renovate this or build a new hotel for almost every one of the 10 years I’ve been mayor. It has been very frustrating but this is finally the beginning of the end.”

Paxton said the city would begin soliciting proposals for a new hotel in the next couple of weeks. He hopes it can be built and opened within two years and will attract conventions and meetings similar to those that were held in Paducah right after the Executive Inn opened.

The Julian Carroll Convention Center and the Paducah Expo Center are located next to the hotel and will remain in operation.

Brad Youngblood, president of the demolition firm, said, “The site should be cleared in plenty of time for April’s quilt show.”

As the ceremony marking the start of exterior demolition was taking place, a crane was used to remove the two familiar green “E” signs from the roof of the four-story structure. The signs were to be auctioned during the 54th WPSD-Lions Club Telethon of Stars.
