Margie Engel
Although she lives on a Florida beach, Margie Engel likes nothing better than spending the day inside––in her sewing studio. Taught to sew at the age of five by her mother, she was stitching appliqué to doll house linens with embroidery floss by age six. Although quilts were not part of her textile heritage, it was the color and design possibilities and the desire for a Christmas wall quilt that led her to try out quilting. An artist was born! Today, she holds numerous quilt award ribbons. Margie is founder and president of EduQuilters, a group of volunteers who take “The Kids Quilt Project” into schools, organizations, and summer camps. For this work she has received several community service awards, including the Jefferson Award for Public Service. She wrote “Kids Quilt Projects In and Out of the Classroom” to help others introduce quilting to children. Margie teaches high school sewing teachers on land, leads retreats abroad cruise ships, and heads symposiums for quilt guilds. Sharing her creativity through “Bodacious Appliqué a la Carte” is a natural step in her life.
