Liz Jones has been interested in sewing most of her life. Her BA was in fine arts, followed by post-graduate studies in art history, and a teaching diploma. Her paints are now fabrics, and her canvases are quilts. She and her husband are avid travelers and she discovered quilting in a magazine when passing through the Vienna airport in 1998—a life-changing moment! Much of her inspiration is gleaned from plants and designs from all over the world with photography an important recording tool. Historical textiles are also a great source of inspiration. Her other passion is choral singing. Liz’s quilts have won numerous awards both in the United Kingdom and America, including the Pfaff Award for Machine Artistry (TUDOR ROSE), Houston 2004; and the Best of World 2008 (HEARTS AND GARLANDS) and Best of Country 2009 (SUMMER RISING) awards in the Mancuso World Quilt and Textile Shows. HEARTS AND GARLANDS also won the World of Beauty Award, Houston 2009, and was the logo quilt for the International Quilt Festival, Chicago 2010. Flowers, Hearts & Garlands Quilt is her second book. As Liz Blacker, she wrote Bromsgrove School Memorial Chapel Tapestries, copyright Bromsgrove School 1993, a description of the 14 appliquéd wallhangings designed and made by her for Bromsgrove School, Worcestershire, U.K.
