    Description

If facing a blank quilt sends you running for the security of a boring allover quilting pattern, this book will cure you. Sue comprehensively addresses supplies for designing, marking, basting, and free-motion quilting. Then she covers designing and quilting several types of feathers: Simple feathers, feathers to fit border, feathers with curved spines, motif-style feathers, feathers for wholecloth. After discussing fillers such as stippling, she describes how to machine quilt on a home machine and concludes with practice exercises and 9 projects to build skills and experience.

    Fabulous Feathers & Fillers - 04/20/2013
Reviewer: Christine N. Brown from Castle Pines, CO

Sue Nickels has produced another excellent, comprehensive reference book for machine quilters. This latest title focuses on designing and free-motion quilting different types of feathers along with creating graceful, consistent fillers to give those feathers dimension. In addition to valuable chapters on design, Sue takes you through the entire process from choosing supplies to marking and basting. Although primarily aimed at home machine quilters, the design section and many of the machine quilting techniques are equally useful for mid-arm and longarm quilters. The last section of the book features nine small wholecloth quilt projects featuring Sue’s feather designs.
