Choose from a range of designs and techniques to provide a professional finishing touch to a quilt. A collection of ideas includes an easy paper-folding technique to make all borders fit perfectly. Designs created by Browning use novelty bindings, scalloped edges, and more to provide lovely quilt borders. Patterns, color photos, and suggestions for alternate uses of the bindings make for a “must” for any quilter who wants to add polishing touches. Review of Borders & Finishing Touches #2 - 02/21/2007

Bonnie K. Browning authored her first book on borders and finishing touches in 1997. Since then she has been collecting new border and binding ideas and has now written her second book on the subject. After putting in the hours to create a beautiful quilt, shouldn’t we strive to wrap it all up in a lovely border and binding? The “Border Primer” section of Borders & Finishing Touches 2 has easy to understand instructions and photos for many different border and binding styles. If you have been using the same type of border on your quilts or puzzling over exactly what type of border you should add to a quilt, then you will want to read this book. Bonnie explains how to accurately measure for various types of borders including appliqué borders. There are several quilt projects included in the book and lots of inspiration for your borders. My favorite is the beautiful appliquéd border called “Keeping Autumn With Me” from a quilt of the same name. Have you ever wondered how to add scalloped edges or dogtooth edges? These are just a few of the edge treatments discussed in the book. Some of the newer art quilts are often seen with pinked binding. This technique is also covered in the book. I recommend this book to the beginner quilter and the advanced quilter. The instructions on how to measure for your border and binding are very good and even the most experienced quilter will learn from the information included in the book.
