Description
Showcasing imaginative design, exquisite execution, and superb visual impact, the Oh, WOW! Collection is in keeping with the mission of the Museum of the American Quilter's Society (MAQS) to honor today's quilters. These miniature quilts contain all the detail and complexity of full-sized quilts, yet are done to scale in a 24 inch x 24 inch or smaller format. This aptly named collection, titled with the comment it most frequently elicits, was sponsored by Benartex, Inc., and curated by Klaudeen Hansen. It features quilts by many of today's best-known and most frequently honored quiltmakers including Bonnie K. Browning, Caryl Bryer Fallert, Judith Day, Diane Gaudynski, Pat Holly, Shirley Kelly, Suzanne Marshall, Anita Shackelford, Debra Wagner, and many, many more. Bill and Meredith Schroeder are the founders of the Museum of the American Quilter's Society in Paducah, Kentucky, and Meredith serves on its board. The entire proceeds from the sale of this book are being donated to the museum s acquisitions fund.
Reviews
If you are a lover of miniature quilts, this book will delight you. It includes prize winning quilts (no patterns included) that will inspire you to try something smaller. The quilts are just exquisite! My one disappointment is that the finished quilt sizes are not included. That would have been helpful information to give you are better understanding of how small the pieces really are. All in all, a wonderful picture/art book. Enjoy! -M. E. Hickory

Review of Oh Wow! The Miniature Quilts & Their Makers - 11/15/2007

Any time miniature quilts are displayed at the American Quilter’s Society shows, the most frequently heard viewer comment is, “Oh Wow!” That’s how the exhibit of these little masterpieces was named. Why would anyone put as much effort and time as it takes to make a full-size quilt into a piece no larger than 24" on a side? The museum’s catalog provides inspiration and insight –– read it and you may find yourself planning to make a tiny treasure of your own. “Oh Wow! The Miniature Quilts and Their Makers at the Museum of the American Quilter’s Society,” is organized by quilter and provides a full page color reproduction of the winning miniature quilt accompanied by an author biography. This is a fine presentation that quilters will appreciate. Diane C. Donovan, Editor, The Midwest Book Review, Library Bookwatch newsletter, August 2007
