I found this to be one of the most inspiring books for quilting that I have read in a long time. The pictures and the ideas for sources to create quilts are very inspirational and informative. I have read each section one at a time go gain insight into how she puts all her ideas together and then creates her quilts. I learned a great deal. -Lisa Fowler

Suzanne Marshall is very inspirational to me. I have had the honor of seeing her work in a show, and it is marvelous. This is the first quilting book I have ever read cover to cover, and I must say I was hungry for more. The text is enjoyable to read to gain insight into her choices of patterns. Her husband's comments throughout the book added an additional dimension to her choices. I felt like I was sitting in a room talking to the two of them. Her technique pages include nice photos to illustrate her words. I have tried her method for making bias stems and I was pleasantly surprised with the results. The entire book is very well done. I look forward to her next book.

The influence of international cultures is apparent in world traveler Suzanne Marshall’s body of work. Elements from medieval tapestries, oriental embroideries, European architecture, and even printers’ ornaments from antique books have made their way onto her quilts. Presented here are more than 20 of her hand-stitched pieces, her innovative hand appliqué methods, and patterns for two of her award winners. Ricky Tims’ foreword honors Suzanne’s unique influence on the quilting world. Angie Hodapp

Suzanne Marshall’s book is a gallery of her prize-winning quilts. She has traveled widely and been inspired by images from all over the world. She is self-taught and all her work is hand sewn, much of it produced whilst traveling. There is a section entitled “Taking the mystery out of appliqué” which explains her methods. “Take away appliqué” is her name for her special technique, which she explains clearly in words and photos. She has found it easier to get smaller stitches on the bias and wonders if this led to the origins of cross hatching in quilting patterns. There are instructions and templates for her LEAF HOPPERS quilt. This is a book by an outstanding quilter and her work is photographed in glorious color.

Suzanne Marshall shares the stories of 21 of her quilts, many inspired by travels with her husband, Garland. She also includes judging comments from her judged quilts, both negative and positive. And, Garland weighs in with his comments on many of the quilts. Suzanne answers basic questions on appliqué, then shares her “take-away appliqué” technique. The book includes appliqué patterns for 16 blocks and one larger quilt. Enjoy the trip with Suzanne.
