    Description

Taking the quilted fabric postcard craze to a new level, Mary Mayne's mini panels captivate quilters' quest for variety. These little gems of various sizes, complete with batting, backing, and binding, make great personalized gifts for decoration or for more practical uses like coasters and potholders. They also make great gift labels and birthday cards. The mini designs provide endless possibilities. Panels may be combined and sewn together in a number of different ways to make larger pieces, among them such fun little quilts as Cream Teas, I Only WentOut for a Fat Quarter! and Three Hens A-Laying! 'I love making things from scraps as I can honestly say that it doesn't cost me anything,' states Mary. The uses and combinations for mini panels are endless. Complete instructions are provided for making the mini panels. With each design, the author has also given a requirements list, embellishment notes, and a step-by-step guide for sewing the mini panels into a full-sized wallhanging, if desired.

Mary Mayne’s "Clever Banners, Panels & Postcards" is a winner. It tells how to use over sixty appliqué patterns and a folk art alphabet to personalize work, pairing projects for sewing up mini-panels with tips on turning them into wallhangings, quilts, banners, and more. An excellent, original, and creative survey which goes beyond the original quilt guide. Review Source: Midwest Book Review, California Bookwatch, December, 2006
