    Liberated Quiltmaking II - 10/08/2010
Reviewer: Elisa Sims Albury from USA

Do you have any quilt idols -- those quilters whose books you’ve bought, quilts you’ve drooled over, or techniques you would LOVE to learn? One of my “it girls” of quilting is Gwen Marston. Once (and still) known for her folk appliqué, Gwen now focuses on “liberated quiltmaking” (see her books “Liberated Quiltmaking” and “Liberated Quiltmaking II,” published by the American Quilter’s Society). The Sock Monkey quilt I shared with you some time ago was made with liberated techniques in a book by Gwen and Freddy Moran (Collaborative Quilting, Sterling Publishing 2006). --Elisa Sims Albury editor, “Quilter’s World Newsletter,” online issue October 8, 2010, Vol. 7, No. 14

This long-awaited follow up to Gwen’s 1996 “Liberated Quiltmaking” will satisfy quilters who enjoy working freely, without templates or precise patterns. If you haven’t tried this approach, here’s your chance. Learn the “non-rules” of design and the “ins and outs of liberated construction.” Choose one of the nine clearly illustrated processes and design a truly original quilt. Quilters Newsletter Magazine, October/November 2010, page 50.

“Gwen plumbs new depths in her liberated method of quiltmaking.” - 08/17/2010
Reviewer: Quilter's Home Magazine from USA

You’d think after two dozen books and 30 years stitching, this Quilt Queen would run out of ideas! Not happening anytime soon, apparently. In this sequel to her 1996 “Liberated Quiltmaking,” Gwen plumbs new depths in her stash and her students’/friends’ efforts in the liberated method of quiltmaking. Here’s what defines Gwen’s fabri-freedom: No rules, no prescribed finished dimensions, no cutting instructions and no worries about running out of fabric. For her second lib-book, Gwen has updated the lessons and totally blown any boundaries with a new set of quilts. Her quilts are gorgeous, vibrant, throbbing masses of color and stitching that leave you gasping for more. Read Gwen’s book and you can make them yourself! --“Quilter’s Home” magazine, August/September 2010, page 69.

    Liberate yourself! - 05/10/2010
Reviewer: American Quilt Retailer magazine from USA

No templates, no patterns, no rules -- sounds good to me! “Liberated Quiltmaking II” by Gwen Marston is all about fun -- having stressless fun while quiltmaking. She teaches nine easy-handed techniques that result in visually exciting quilts. The results are not necessarily contemporary looking quilts, but free-spirited looking quilts. --“American Quilt Retailer,” May 2010, page 6.

Gwen Marston: Liberated Once More - 04/30/2010
Reviewer: Small Quilts, quiltmaker.com from USA

Gwen Marston published “Liberated Quiltmaking” in 1997, but she has been teaching her trademark concepts for at least twenty years. “Liberated Quiltmaking II” expands the concepts and tops them off with chapters on liberated medallions and liberated samplers. A gallery of great liberated quilts is the grand finale. Whet your appetite for creative thinking and out-of-the-box sewing with this colorful treasure. --“Small Quilts,” www.quiltmaker.com, page 9.
