Australian quilter Gail Simpson likes to combine hand-dyed fabrics with commercial prints. She has always loved color and never especially liked the prints she saw at her local quilt shops. She decided to try hand-dying fabrics, and before she knew it, she was in business. She realized that many people have a problem with combining hand-dyed fabrics with the fabrics in their collection, so she developed “Fabric Fandango” a book with patterns that successfully combine lots of different fabrics into beautiful quilts. I especially like quilting patterns from designers who live in another country. They always seem to have a different twist. I don’t know if it is because the fabrics available to them are very different from those here in the United States, or if it is the influence of the surrounding countryside. Whatever the reason, it’s always nice to add books by these designers to my ever-growing quilt library. If this is true for you too, add this one by Gail Simpson to your list soon. SLH
