Description
Use Peggy's original continuous line designs as the starting point to create unique quilting patterns-feathers, butterflies, hearts, paisleys, and more. Three concepts underlie her approach to free-motion quilting-dream feathers, standard feathers, and 10 full-size base shapes. Develop these for single line designs, furls, flourishes, borders, and medallions. Her designs work for longarm, midarm, or domestic quilting, and hand quilters can stitch them, too. Creative quilters will be able to adapt her how-to drawings as complete, ready-to-use designs. She includes exercises to develop free-motion skills and marking methods. This book is a comprehensive approach to continuous line design and quilting design creativity.

"Create Your Own Dream Feathers" offers a fine survey on how to create feathers for a range of projects, presenting some eight base shapes for quilters and showing how to use easy paper-folding methods to develop patterns and new designs. Over 26 full-size patterns are included in a survey for hand and machine quilter alike at all experience levels, with many color photos and illustrations accompanying an in-depth key to continuous line quilting designs. A top pick for any quilter's library, this offers everything needed to create different feathering effects in the quilting environment. --James A. I might be able to do this! - 03/12/2012

First I should tell you that Peggy is a friend of mine. Second I should tell you that I am an art quilter and use mostly free motion quilting and don't do the precise stuff that Peggy does. After reading this book - every word. I have been practicing and I think I will be able to do some of these wonderful feathers. Her instructions are terrific and I will be incorporating feathers in my little quilts. It's such fun to learn new stuff.

Peggy explains how to create feathers beginning with a simple line and shape. Then step-by-step she shows how to build upon base shapes to develop more complex designs which can be used to fill squares, corners blocks, sashings, and borders. The book offers a glossary of shapes and patterns but also explains how to create original feather designs. This is a very useful reference for quilters interested in quilting elegant and flowing designs.

This book is definitely different than all of the other books on quilting feathers! I've taken classes on quilting feathers and was made to feel like the feathers had to be perfect. I got frustrated and gave up on them. This book shows how you can do feathers in more of a free-form manner and add swirls and circles. I can't wait to sit down at my sewing machine with this book and try out this method of quilting feathers! I think some of my future quilts just may have feathers quilted on them!
