General Information
Getting to the Show and Parking
Welcome to the second annual AQS Quilt Show and Contest in Des Moines, Iowa’s largest city and the state capital. Des Moines is easy to reach by air, car, or motor coach. It is at the intersection of the number one and three most traveled interstates in the Unites States: I-80 (coast-to-coast) and I-35 (border-to-border). The AQS Quilt Show and Contest will be held at the Iowa Events Center, 730 Third Street, located just off the Third Street exit on I-235 in downtown Des Moines.
Directions to the Iowa Events Center
From Interstate 35 from the North: Follow I-235 West into Downtown Des Moines. Take the 3rd Street (Downtown Des Moines) exit south to the Iowa Events Center Complex.
From Interstate 35 from the South: Merge onto I-235 East exit and travel east towards Downtown Des Moines. Take the downtown exit and proceed to the Third Street exit to the Iowa Events Center Complex.
From Interstate 80 from the East: Headed west on I-80, take the I-235 West exit and continue towards Downtown Des Moines. Take the 3rd Street exit (Downtown Des Moines) and go south to the Iowa Events Center Complex.
From Interstate 80 from the West: Headed east on I-80, take the I-235 East exit and continue towards Downtown Des Moines. Take the Iowa Events Center Exit (Third Street) and turn right.
Parking
Iowa Events Center: Parking is available north of Vets Auditorium with entrances off the following streets: Third, Fifth, and Crocker. Iowa Events Center surface lots offer the closest and most convenient access to the facility and easy access to I-235 and other major routes after the event. ADA Accessible parking is available at the Iowa Events Center by entering the lot south of Crocker Street, next to Vets Auditorium. Cost: $6.
Street Parking Downtown: Street parking is available throughout downtown with the convenience of parking meters. Pay attention to the location and rates as many meters have different time limits and parking restrictions during certain times (typically no parking between 7 – 9 a.m. and 4 – 6 p.m.) Cost: Varies
Parking Garages: City parking garages are located throughout downtown with convenient skywalk access to Iowa Events Center Hy-Vee Hall. Payment for city garages is collected each time you enter the garage. The City of Des Moines recently completed a downtown parking signage system to give up-to-the-minute details on where parking is available in the garages. Cost: Varies
