It turns out that mother really did know best when Cindy’s mom signed her up for a quilting class at the local community college in 1992. Known best for her machine quilting, Cindy likes to take traditional patterns and enhance them, creating a style all her own. Cindy has an impressive list of awards to her credit, including winning Best of Show with her quilt, SIMPLY SANTA FE, at the 2011 AQS QuiltWeek in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Cindy is an instructor with the AQS School of Quiltmaking. A fun fact is that Cindy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental and Systematic Biology with a concentration in Fisheries Biology. For over 20 years, she and her husband owned their own aquaculture facility, raising catfish for sale to grocers and restaurants. When they can get away, Cindy and her husband, Rich, along with daughter Caitlyn and son Cameron, like to spend time in the mountains and deserts of the western United States.

1. What kind of stitches will I learn?
There are eight basic stitches taught in the class. You will learn useful filler stitches like pebbles. You’ll make teardrops, beautiful swirls, rainbows, and strings of pearls. Stitch hearts, waves of feathers, and seaweed. Many of these include fun variations, giving your quilting stitches an artful grace that enhances any quilting project. Plus, if you follow along with the class, you will complete a striking stocking sampler that is perfect for gift giving! Whether you make the stocking sampler or apply these quilting stitches to another quilting project, please post pictures so we can enjoy your progress.
2. Will this class give me ideas for quilting my own quilts?
Absolutely. Once you have added these stitches to your quilting wheelhouse, they can be used as fillers and background stitches for all of your quilting pieces. Knowing how to execute these motifs will give you the confidence to jump in and try them on your quilts, adding interest and variety.
3. If I have never machine quilted before, is this a good class for me?
If you are a beginner when it comes to machine quilting, consider taking Successful Machine Quilting: Basic and Beyond, also taught by Cindy. It provides valuable information to those just beginning to learn how to machine quilt. Then, you will be ready to continue honing your quilting skills with the Machine Quilted Stocking Sampler class.
4. What if I have questions?
