2024 AQS & AccuQuilt-Along : October

For the October AQS & AccuQuilt-Along, we're making the popular Classic Storm at Sea Throw.

It's time to kick off our next quilt along! This month features a new pattern, by AccuQuilt Cutting Expert Pam Heller, the Classic Storm at Sea Throw. If you are using the AccuQuilt cutting system, this quilt uses the GO! Storm at Sea Block on Board die. If not, we have the traditional rotary cutting instructions available below.

Fabric Requirements

Dark Fabric - 3 yards

Medium Fabric - 1 1/4 yards

Light Fabric - 3 1/8 yards (If you are using the AccuQuilt cutting system to cut out your quilt, you only need 3 yards)

Binding - 1/2 yard

Backing - 3 1/2 yards

Rotary Cutting Instructions

Note: All cuts have been arranged in size order because this is the order they should be cut. 

Dark:

  • (82) Template A
  • (35) 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" squares (Shape F)
  • (96) 2 3/8" x 2 3/8" squares: cut each square diagonally once to make 192 triangles (Shape E)

Medium:

  • (70) 3 7/8" x 3 7/8" squares: cut each square diagonally once to make 140 triangles (Shape H)
  • (48) 2" x 2" squares (Shape C)

Light:

  • (164) Template B
  • (168) Template B Reversed
  • (35) 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" squares: cut each square diagonally twice to make 140 triangles (Shape G)
  • (48) 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" squares cut each square diagonally twice to make 192 triangles (Shape D)

Week Two

To get started sewing your Storm at Sea blocks, you’ll want to gather up your supplies and get ready for some serious chain piecing!

Here’s what you’ll need:
Cut and organized pieces
Copy of the pattern, which includes the Block Assembly Directions
Sewing machine, thread, scissors
Iron & pressing mat or ironing board
GO! Quilter’s Clapper (optional)
