Fabric Requirements

Green scraps (dark, medium, and light) for the mountains and trees
Blue scraps for the sky
White scraps for the tops of the mountains
Brown scraps for the tree trunks
Green Background & Sashing: 1 1/2 yards
Blue Border: 1/2 yard
Binding: 1/2 yard
Backing: 4 yards

Cutting Instructions

See the block instructions for paper piecing fabric. Please note: All paper piece parts sizes are listed on the big side. If you are confident with paper piecing, use the patterns for estimating what you need.

From the green background fabric, cut:
(16) 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" squares for Trees blocks
(12) 2" x 16 1/2" rectangles for sashing
(4) 2" x 2" squares for sashing

From the blue border fabric, cut:
(6) 2" x width of fabric strips

From the binding fabric, cut:
(6) 2 1/2" x width of fabric strips

Print one copy per block. Measure the 1" square to ensure printing size accuracy.

For each Unit A you will need:
A1 - (1) 8" x 8" cut in half diagonally once white scrap
A2 - (1) 11 3/4" x 3 1/2" green scrap
A3 & A4 - (1) 8" x 8" cut in half diagonally once sky scrap to make 2 triangles

For each Unit B you will need:
B1 - (1) 8" x 8" cut in half diagonally once white scrap
B2 - (1) 5 3/4" x 7 1/2" sky scrap

For each Unit C you will need:
C1 - (1) 11 3/4" x 3 1/2" light green scrap
C2 & C4 - (1) 5" x 5" cut in half diagonally once dark green scrap to make 2 triangles
C3 - (1) 5" x 5" cut in half diagonally once medium green scrap
C5 - (1) 4" x 4" cut in half diagonally once medium green scrap

For each Unit D you will need:
D1 - (1) 8 1/2" x 3 1/2" dark green scrap
D2 - (1) 4 1/2" x 3 1/2" medium green scrap
D3 & D5 - (1) 5" x 5" cut in half diagonally once medium green scrap to make 2 triangles
D4 - (1) 5" x 5" cut in half diagonally once dark green scrap
D6 - (1) 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" dark green scraps
D7 - (1) 17 1/2" x 3 1/2" light green scrap

For each Unit E you will need:
E1 - (1) 14" x 4" medium green scrap
E2 - (1) 15 1/2" x 3" dark green scrap
E3 - (1) 7 3/4" x 5 1/2" green scrap

Mountains Block Assembly

Assemble the units following the numerical order.

Sew Unit A to Unit B. Then sew A/B to Unit C. Sew Unit D to Unit E. The sew A/B/C to D/E to complete the block.

Mountain block measures 16 1/2" X 16 1/2" unfinished. Make 5.

Trees Block

For each Unit A you will need:
A1 - (1) 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" brown scrap
A2 & A3 - (2) 4 1/2" x 3 1/2" background rectangles
A4 - (1) 9 1/2" x 3 1/2" green scrap
A5 & A6 - (1) 4" x 4" cut in half diagonally once background square to make 2 triangles

For each Unit B you will need:
B1 - (1) 7 1/2" x 3 1/2" green scrap
B2 & B3 - (2) 4 1/2" x 3 1/2" background rectangles

For each Unit C you will need:
C1 - (1) 5" x 5" cut in half diagonally once green scrap
C2 & C3 - (2) 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" background rectangles

For each Unit D you will need:
D1 - (1) 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" brown scrap
D2 & D3 - (2) 3" x 2 1/2" background rectangles
D4 - (1) 5 1/2" x 2 1/2" green scrap
D5 & D6 - (1) 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" cut in half diagonally once background square to make 2 triangles

For each Unit E you will need:
E1 - (1) 4 1/2" x 2 1/2" green scrap
E2 & E3 - (2) 3" x 2 1/2" background rectangles

For each Unit F you will need:
F1 - (1) 3" x 3" cut in half diagonally once green scrap
F2 & F3 - (2) 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" background rectangles
