Quilts in the Capital City
Join AQS in Des Moines, Iowa for a week of quilts! Take quilt classes, enjoy lectures, and shop fabrics, notions and more at the Vendor Merchant Mall. Most of all, be inspired as you explore beautiful quilts, from award-winning and semi-finalist contest quilts to special exhibits.
While you're enjoying QuiltWeek, be sure to check out the local area. Take a break in the Botanical Garden and shop at the local boutiques. There's so much to see and do, you'll want to stay the week!

Show Information
Parking at the Show
NOTE: There is NO overnight parking available in Iowa Events Center lots. Vehicles left overnight will be towed.
Attendee Parking:
- Car parking is available north of the Vets Auditorium with entrances off the following streets: Third and Fifth.
- Accessible parking is available at the Iowa Events Center by entering the lot south of Crocker Street, next to the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center.
- Cars/trucks/vans, etc. that take one parking spot are $12 a day – no in/outs.
- Trucks with duallys are $24 a day – no in/outs.
- Trailers are $12 per spot per day – no in/outs.
- Buses are $48 per day – no in/outs.
Street parking is available throughout downtown with the convenience of parking meters. Pay during certain times (typically no parking between 4-6 p.m.; cost varies).

Taxicabs are available for after-hours trips to dine out or shop.

Saturday, Sept. 30:

Scooter Rental
Scooters and wheelchairs are available to rent at the AQS Information Center from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Rental rates are:
- Scooter: $80 per day, $150 for 2 days
- Scooter Half-Day (Morning or Afternoon): $45 - Available from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. or 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. (Saturday 12:00 - 3 p.m.)
- Wheelchairs: $40 per day
Please call Alyssa Marsh at (270) 898-7903 x193 by September 7, 2023 to make a reservation. After September 7, rent your scooter at the AQS Information Center during QuiltWeek (while supplies last).
If you have a scooter reserved, stop at the AQS Information Center inside the Exhibit Hall to make payment, sign the paperwork, and pick up the key. When making a reservation, if the scooter is not picked up within an hour of your arrival time, your scooter will no longer be held and will become available for others.
Scooters need to be returned one hour prior to the show closing each day (4:00 p.m. on Wed., Thurs., and Fri., and 3:00 p.m. on Sat). You will need to return the key to the AQS Information Center.


Quilt Appraisals
AQS Certified Quilt Appraisers will appraise new or antique/vintage quilts for insurance replacement, or for sale or donation purposes.
No appointment is necessary, but you can contact Bonnie Browning at 270-898-7903, ext. 146 or bonnie.browning@americanquilter.com to schedule a day and time.
Walk-in appraisals for AQS QuiltWeek – Des Moines, IA 2023 will be held Thursday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Appraisal Fee: $75 per quilt, payable at the AQS Information Center prior to the appraisal.
You’ll receive your written appraisal no later than 30 days after the close of the show.
Local Charity
At each show, the American Quilter’s Society partners with local charitable groups to help make the public aware of their contribution.
Hawthorn Hill provides free, temporary, emergency shelter and services for homeless families with children. The Eastern Polk Quilters Guild and quilters attending the show will be making quilts for Hawthorn Hill to distribute. We can make a difference! Stop and sew a block or two in Booth 1421. All supplies are provided.
