Whether you are a beginning quilter or one who wants to pick up some tips for making a quilt, this AQS Let’s Quilt series is for you. Once you learn the basics, you will be comfortable with making any style of quilt. Bonnie Browning begins with the most popular patterns, plays with color, and shows you how to make a quilt step by step. Downloadable instructions are included with each lesson.

Lesson 1:
Gather Tools and Materials
Lesson 1 of AQS Let’s Quilt Beginners’ Series with Bonnie previews the tools and materials Bonnie Browning uses to make the quilt in the AQS studio in Paducah, Kentucky – Quilt City USA®.
Lesson 2:
Choosing Pattern & Cutting Fabric
Time to get started! Bonnie demonstrates how to use a rotary cutter, mat, ruler, and AccuQuilt die cutting machine to cut the pieces needed for the Nine-Patch quilt. Now it is your turn to cut the fabric needed for this quilt.
Lesson 2:
Seam Allowance & Sewing Patchwork
Learn three ways to stitch a ¼” seam allowance and how to choose thread for your quilt. Now the fun begins as you learn strip piecing, all sewn with straight seams. Pressing tips will help you handle the seams as you sew the blocks together.
Lesson 4:
Assembling the Quilt
You have sewn all 16 blocks, and now we get to set them together. See why it is important to measure your blocks before cutting the sashing strips. Sew the blocks and sashing strips together to make the four rows, then stitch the final sashing rows and finish assembling the quilt. Easy peasy!
Lesson 5:
Borders & Quilting the Quilt
One more step is needed to finish the quilt top – adding the borders. Learn tips for measuring and cutting the borders to size to make sure they fit properly. See how you can add quilting using the sewing machine with the feed dogs up – you can do this!
Lesson 6:
Finishing Touches – Binding and Edge Finishes
Your quilt is almost finished. Bonnie will demonstrate how to sew the binding to the edges of the quilt. The finishing touch is adding a label to the back of the quilt!
