Apliquick tools are required for this workshop.This finished edge technique is the fastest, most precise, and easiest appliqué technique that Kathy has discovered in 20 years of making applique quilts. You will be amazed at its swift learning curve. After turning your edges, you can hand or machine applique your owls together and to the background. Enhance the visual impact of your little owls by adding details with embroidery stitches. Students are so excited with this method that has been sweeping the appliqué world. Stitch your way into the holidays with this 14" x 24" wallhanging. Perfect for a gift, your office, or home. Your Nutcracker will be made as a separate unit so could be added to any block also. Want to learn the fastest, most precise, and easiest way to appliqué? Join Kathy to learn the Apliquick method of turning your edges. Your Nutcracker can then be sewn by hand or machine to the background fabric. Add optional embellishments - hand or machine embroidery, rhinestones, buttons and small Christmas ornaments. Razzle Dazzle Your Quilts! A Trunk Show with Kathy McNeil, #MCNEIL
Kathy revels in adding small details and surprises for viewers to find in her quilts. She will share tips and creative techniques for adding a variety of fun visual effects to your quilts. This lecture, with plenty of award-winning techniques, is inspirational and educational. You find your "creative voice" when you are the most playful. Kathy's quilts are frequently featured in museums, magazines, calendars and international shows because of their strong visual effects. Supplies are not required for a lecture, although you may want to bring a pen and paper to take notes.

Sea Turtle and Coral Reef: Create Pictorial Appliqué, #43104t
Fast, fun, and oh so magical. Step into the world of pictorial appliqué. Learn the steps of layered UNIT appliqué to enhance your designs. Two applique methods can be used to create your turtle. The Easy Apliquick method - turned edges create more loft, dimension, and longevity in your turtles. Students will use this method for the larger shapes and then - fuse on the smaller mosaic flipper shapes. Kathy will be teaching the Apliquick method. Either hand or machine appliqué can be used to sew your turtle together and to the background. Kathy will go over her favorite machine appliqué stitch. Bring your own Apliquick tools, glue pen and interfacing, order with pattern, or purchase from instructor in class. Kathy will supply some Lite Steam a seam2 to get you started. Class objectives: Tips for basic pattern making for all sea critters using base shapes. Shading objects to increase the sense of form using Kathy’s favorite paint crayons. Choosing fabrics for pictorial work. Creating 3-D embellishments. Quilting the Pictorial quilt.
