Bio:

Dana E. Jones, artist, quiltmaker and journalist, is author of Pagtinabangay: The Quilts and Quiltmakers of Caohagan Island, which shares the story of quiltmaking on a 13-acre island in the central Philippines. Dana is a former editor of Quilters Newsletter magazine and the Studio Art Quilt Associates Journal. She has articles, pattern, and block designs published in these magazines and in The Quilt Life, Fons and Porter’s Love of Quilting, McCall’s Quilting, Quiltmaker, Quilts With Style and Quick Quilts magazines. She is a regular teacher at Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum and quilt shops in Centennial, Pueblo, Estes Park, and Delta, Colorado. She has spoken and taught at quilt guilds and shops in Texas, Arizona, Florida, Illinois, New York, North Carolina, Washington, and Kansas. Her quilts have been exhibited at Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum and in the 2018 American Quilt Study Group traveling exhibition. Learn to design quilts with extreme angles, sharp points, precision piecing, easy cutting, one-of-a-kind images, and more. You’ll learn how to create foundations for everything from traditional blocks to pictorial quilts. During class, we'll move from designing foundations for simple blocks to more complex pictorial quilts from photos. You'll meet and make friends with the Paper Police as you hone skills toward creating designs possible only with foundation piecing. You'll learn to determine the number of foundations needed, number foundations for piecing order, label foundations for piecing ease, make templates for cutting patches for on-grain piecing and efficient use of fabric, and more. Description:

Dana Jones, a former editor of Quilters Newsletter magazine, will share the story of the quilts and quiltmakers of Caohagan Island, a 13-acre tropical paradise in the central Philippines. Of 600 residents of the island, more than 100 are quiltmakers. Dana will share images of the quilts and life on the island along with a mini trunk show that will include some of the quilts exhibited at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky. Each handmade quilt is a unique design that reflects the colors and flora and fauna of the island, made from fabrics produced in the Philippines and incorporating piecing and appliqué. Supplies are not required for a lecture, although you may want to bring a pen and paper to take notes.
