In class, discover how to use stencils to quickly mark designs onto your quilting space and then how to plan stitching paths to reduce or eliminate backtracking by adding secondary designs in your quilting. You will also learn new techniques for using a variety of ruler styles. Discover how to outline appliqué shapes with precision using specialty guides. You will learn a variety of methods for marking designs onto your quilt top with no fear! Two people per machine.

The quilting process plays a very important role in the overall appearance and success of any quilt. We are often uninspired or get in a rut when it comes to deciding how a quilt should be quilted. Join Gina Perkes as she shares with you the steps she takes when deciding which quilting path to take. Discover the style and function of every quilt so you can design and plan the quilting to enhance each unique quilt. This lecture features a PowerPoint (slideshow) presentation with photo samples of quilts and recommendations for quilting each. Many different styles of quilts will be covered ranging from modern to traditional and custom to edge-to-edge. Questions are welcome and attendees are encouraged to bring photographs of quilts they would like design input for.

Students will gain confidence in producing beautiful cross-hatching and unique variations using minimal tools. Learn how to use temporarily marked grids as a guide for spacing beautiful freehand designs. A variety of unique free-hand filler designs will be explored and you will learn how to achieve balance and control in your work. Two people per machine.

You will also gain many tips on decorative thread success, tension, trouble shooting, machine set up, and more. This is a fun and stress free class filled with creativity and tips for success.

Quilting rulers or templates are amazing tools! Gina will show you how to use them to create incredible free-motion designs. You will discover how to hold them for better control and accuracy. How to use the registration marks on the rulers for angles and combined designs, along with how to set up your machine. You will leave class with excellent techniques and a new supply of quilting designs. Gina will also show you how to use rulers to stylize your quilting designs with accuracy. You will discover how to gain versatility with each tool and adjust them to fit the size of your quilting space. She will also discuss how to use rulers with grid stencils as a reference for perfect placement when creating designs. All of Gina’s workshops are taught in a low-stress environment where students can work at their own pace and are encouraged to discover their creativity and have fun.

Gina Perkes will help you discover the proper steps to take and share many tips as you embark on your new and exciting journey. Learn freehand exercises which will train you to become fluid in your free-motion quilting and how to mirror images and execute shapes with ease. You will learn to love working at the front of the machine and the many benefits of doing so. In addition to learning to quilt simple yet beautiful designs, you will come away with the basic knowledge of machine setup, troubleshooting, thread and tension tips, and much more!
