Get ready for four unforgettable days of quilting with one instructor, one project, and one incredible opportunity to deepen your skills. At the AQS Seam Quilt Retreat, you’ll choose the instructor who inspires you and spend the entire retreat learning directly from them in a focused, hands-on setting. Group lunches and evening events bring all retreat attendees together. However, your learning experience is in a private classroom with your chosen instructor and classmates.
Session Description:
Celebrate the beauty of autumn with Jane Sassaman as you create a stunning appliqué quilt featuring vibrant fall leaves. In this session, you’ll use Jane’s custom-designed leaf patterns to craft a unique quilt top that reflects the changing seasons. You’ll explore her signature appliqué technique, using interfacing to preassemble your fabric pieces, making the process smooth and portable. With her expert help, you’ll design your own composition of leaves and spirals, learning techniques that will enhance your future quilting projects.
Highlights:
- Create a custom autumn quilt using large leaf appliqué patterns
- Learn a machine appliqué technique using interfacing for stability and easy assembly
- Design your own quilt top by arranging leaves in your choice of colors and fabrics for a unique composition
- Learn how to work with colors to combine shades of hues for added depth
- Practice designing your own spiral motifs to complement your leaf appliqué designs
Project Description:
In this workshop, you’ll work on an autumn-themed appliqué quilt, incorporating large, detailed leaf designs like burr oak, red oak, maple, ginkgo, and acorns, along with swirly spirals to represent the autumn breeze. Each leaf is made up of several fabric panels in varying shades, allowing you to play with color and texture. The project is versatile, enabling you to create an individual composition that can be the centerpiece of your quilt or inspire future projects. Jane’s interfacing technique will make your fabric behave like paper, providing stability and ease during the machine appliqué process.
