Fabric Requirements

Light Grey - 3 yards
Medium Grey - 1 1/3 yards
Dark Grey - 2/3 yard
White - 2 yards
Binding - 2/3 yard

Cutting Instructions

From the medium grey fabric, cut:
(54) 5" x 5" squares
(2) 2 1/2" x 72" sewn from width of fabric strips
(2) 2 1/2" x 76" sewn from width of fabric strips

From the light grey fabric, cut:
(54) 5" x 5" squares
(2) 17" x 17" squares
(1) 17 1/2" x 17 1/2" square
(1) 24" x 24" square, cut in half diagonally twice (use two)
(1) 12 1/4" x 12 1/4" square, cut in half diagonally once
(2) 2 1/2" x 68" sewn from width of fabric strips
(2) 2 1/2" x 72" sewn from width of fabric strips

From the dark grey fabric, cut:
(5) 9" x 9" squares

From the white fabric, cut:
(5) 9" x 9" squares
(2) 17" x 17" squares
(1) 17 1/2" x 17 1/2" square
(1) 24" x 24" square, cut in half diagonally twice (use two)
(1) 12 1/4" x 12 1/4" square, cut in half diagonally once

Block Assembly

Half Square Triangles

Mark the wrong side of the light grey 5" squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked light grey square over a medium grey 5” square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line and press.

Trim each Half Square Triangle to 4 1/2” square. Make 108.

Mark the wrong side of the white 9" squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked white square over a dark grey 9” square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line and press.

Trim each Half Square Triangle to 8 1/2” square. Make 9.

Sew two 4 1/2" Half Square Triangles together, one on top of the other. Sew a set to each side of the center 8 1/2" Half Square Triangle.

Sew four 4 1/2" Half Square Triangles together, side by side, to make the top row. Repeat to make the bottom row. Sew to the top and bottom of the block center.

The unfinished block measures 16 1/2" unfinished. Make 9.

Setting Blocks

Mark the wrong side of the white 17" squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked white square over a light grey 17” square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line and press.

Trim each Half Square Triangle to 16 1/2” square. Make 4.

Setting Triangles

Mark the wrong side of the white 17 1/2" squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked white square over a light grey 17 1/2” square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line and press.

You may wish to mark the center cutting line, then baste along each side of the pre-cut edge of the Half Square Triangle before cutting. Cut each Half Square Triangle in half diagonally once. Make 4 halves total.

Quilt Assembly

Layout the blocks and setting components into rows as shown below.

Sew each row, then sew the rows together to complete the quilt center.

Sew two 4 1/2" Half Square Triangles together, one on top of the other. Sew a set to each side of the center 8 1/2" Half Square Triangle.

Sew four 4 1/2" Half Square Triangles together, side by side, to make the top row. Repeat to make the bottom row. Sew to the top and bottom of the block center.

The unfinished block measures 16 1/2" unfinished. Make 9.

Setting Blocks

Mark the wrong side of the white 17" squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked white square over a light grey 17” square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line and press.

Trim each Half Square Triangle to 16 1/2” square. Make 4.

Setting Triangles

Mark the wrong side of the white 17 1/2" squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked white square over a light grey 17 1/2” square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line and press.

You may wish to mark the center cutting line, then baste along each side of the pre-cut edge of the Half Square Triangle before cutting. Cut each Half Square Triangle in half diagonally once. Make 4 halves total.

Quilt Assembly

Layout the blocks and setting components into rows as shown below.

Sew each row, then sew the rows together to complete the quilt center.

Borders

Measure across the quilt to trim borders if needed.

Sew the light grey 2 1/2" x 68" borders to the sides of the quilt center.

Sew the light grey 2 1/2" x 72" borders to the top and bottom of the quilt center.

Sew the dark grey 2 2/12" x 72" borders to the sides of the quilt.

Sew the dark grey 2 1/2" x 76" borders to the top and bottom of the quilt.

Layer with batting and backing. Quilt as desired and bind.
