Eleanor Burns started a revolution in quilting in 1978 when she self-published her first book, Make a Quilt in A Day: Log Cabin Pattern, which detailed simple-to-follow techniques that compacted months of work into merely a day. Eleanor went on to write over a hundred books, host six seasons of Quilt In A Day on PBS, and train thousands of instructors that teach her methods. With that legacy firmly established, in 2005, AQS members chose her – from among thousands of entries – as one of the greatest living contributors to the art and industry of quilting, awarding her and only four others the title of AQS All-American Quilter.
Kathy McNeil is an award winning quilt artist, judge, teacher, and designer. Hand appliquéing thousands of little scraps of fabric together, she creates quilts that look like paintings. Often using over a hundred different fabrics in one composition, Kathy revels in adding small details and surprises for the viewer to find. Kathy is the designer of several patterns, including Audubon’s Christmas, Language of Flowers, and New Blessings, all available through ShopAQS.com. She is the author of Landscape Quilts with Kathy McNeil (2015) and the Multiple Ways to Appliqué DVD, and she is an iquilt.com instructor. Kathy’s quilts have been featured in museums, magazines, calendars, and international shows. Most recently, she won the Janome America Best of Show award at the First Annual AQS QuiltWeek – Fall Paducah for her quilt ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE.
Pat Holly has been making quilts for over 35 years and sewing for over 50. She has been entering AQS quilt shows for 20 years and has won Best of Show at AQS Paducah three times, most recently for TURKISH TREASURES in 2018. Pat has also won Best Machine Workmanship twice with her sister, Sue Nickels, in addition to a Best Wall Quilt award and four Best Miniature Awards. In 1998, Pat and Sue’s quilt THE BEATLES QUILT won the Janome America Best of Show award in Paducah at the first show it was entered in. Many of Pat’s quilts can be seen at The National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky. Pat is an AQS author and advocate. See more interviews and tips with Pat at youtube.com/quilttv.
