Class 3 – Xquisite Scrap Quilt

Lesson 1:

Fabrics used in this quilt are light, medium, and dark values of any color. This quilt is great for using up scraps you already own. If you don’t have a lot of scraps, purchase two yards of one light fabric to use wherever lights are needed, and use your other fabrics in medium and dark values to make the blocks. Learn Bonnie’s easy method for sorting your fabrics.

Lesson 2:

Using the traditional method for making Half-Square Triangles, we will sew Nine-Patch blocks using light/medium, light/dark, and medium/dark combinations of HSTs using Bonnie’s method for creating the half-light and half-dark blocks. Today is a sewing day – don’t be matchy-matchy in choosing fabrics to sew together. All colors work in this quilt!

Lesson 3:

Using the chain piecing method of assembling the blocks, you will see that it really doesn’t make any difference which colors are used if the values of the colors are right.

Lesson 4:

Playing with the layout of the blocks is such a fun part of this quilt. Because this block is half-light and half-dark values, any layout that you could use for Log Cabin blocks can be used for this quilt. Bonnie will use the design wall to show you several designs for your quilt.
