Instructor

Carlson, Betsy
Betsy Carlson began sewing officially with classes in junior high. Before that, she would work on hand stitching kits for ornaments and samplers. In high school, she was trained in alterations, starting her professional sewing career. Betsy has quilted, sewn custom clothing, made window treatments, and created bags and slipcovered furniture. Having a quilt accepted in the AQS Paducah show was a career highlight. Now Betsy travels the country for BERNINA, visiting dealerships and shows to demonstrate the BERNINA Longarm, educate owners, and present quilting classes. With all that travel, she has a lot of time to fill in hotels and airports, so she creates quilt tops with English Paper Piecing. Believing we are never too old to learn, Betsy is always investigating sewing techniques, styles, and trends.

Life is fast. Explore why so many people are slowing down to enjoy the beauty and flexibility of hand stitching. We are going to start from the beginning with English Paper Piecing (EPP). Your class kit will provide all the essential tools, and we will prepare the shapes, learn the best hand stitch, try different threads, and play with shapes to create designs. EPP lets you make the most of found moments, creating finished pieces even when you can't be at your sewing machine. AccuQuilt will provide cutters and dies for class use so you can experience that method of cutting. Registration for this class includes show admission for Thursday.
