Instructor Workshops
Freeform Beach Scene, #154503
In this workshop, students will create a 5" x 7" beach scene using fusible-backed fabric and a reference photo of their choice. Kestrel will provide compositional guidelines to follow before turning students loose. This workshop is particularly exciting because there is no pattern and no set kit, so every student produces a uniquely different result. The kit includes an assortment of fabric, but every kit is different and students are encouraged to trade and share fabric amongst themselves. To finish the artwork, each student will receive a picture mat and cellophane sleeve for easy transportation and framing of their art.

Stitch Theory, #151803
Kestrel started as a fine artist before evolving into a quilter. Even though she was creating art with fabric for over a decade, Kestrel’s early works could not be considered quilts because they were missing one key component: the stitching. The idea of adding quilting proved quite the hurdle to cross, but it was one she had to figure out in order to become part of the quilt world. This presentation is the story of Kestrel’s fraught relationship with stitches: from necessary evil to integral part of the design.
