Important tips and tricks to success are incorporated throughout the class material so you can explore the far-reaching potential rulers will bring to your quilting! Chase all your cares away with this fun and informative border workshop. Learn simple, fundamental free-motion quilting designs while emphasizing ideas for border spaces. Techniques include how to segment the border to create even design spacing, how to travel in the designs, how to turn the corner while maintaining the design, how to connect the designs, as well as how to echo to fill in spaces. An important topic emphasized throughout the workshop is smart design pathways to limit starts and stops allowing you to finish to border smoothly and quickly. Designs include simple arcs, cursive loops, and overlapping ribbons and progresses to hearts and feathers as time allows. Some quilting templates may be used alongside general free-motion skills to enhance the learning experience.

The “Free-motion Plus” workshop is an integration of template skills and free-motion quilting. Mandala Mania uses the Westalee Circles templates to set the stage for elegant circle designs. Learn simple, fundamental free-motion quilting movements that use circular divisions as the design boundaries. Techniques include dividing, echoing, segmenting, and using spacial estimation to build this beautiful design. Great tips for successful free-motion are offered throughout the workshop. These skills and shapes can be applied to pieced blocks or superimposed over unrelated shapes and used as main motifs or to fill negative space. These designs are great for both traditional and modern quilting styles. Class fee includes a boxed lunch.

Sashiko Rulerwork Sampler, #358503
Sashiko designs are elegant and timeless, great for both traditional and modern quilt projects. This rulerwork workshop uses grid foundations to build the framework for these classic Sashiko elements. Designs include the classic Clamshell with two variations, the Persian Tile Single and Double design, the Puzzle design, and a mastery design using the previously learned skills. Other topics include using grid stencils and Pounce pads, choosing the best threads, and making the designs fit into areas of a quilt. Basic template skills and machine setup are also included. This is a good way to get started both designing quilted elements and learning to use templates for quilting.
