Get ready for four unforgettable days of quilting with one instructor, one project, and one incredible opportunity to deepen your skills. At the AQS Seam Quilt Retreat, you’ll choose the instructor who inspires you and spend the entire retreat learning directly from them in a focused, hands-on setting. Group lunches and evening events bring all retreat attendees together. However, your learning experience is in a private classroom with your chosen instructor and classmates.

Fantasy Flock

Project/Quilt Description:

Fantasy Flock grew from Marge Tucker’s interest in nature, especially birds! Using her love of piecing improvisational quilts and of our feathered friends, she designed a quilt with a variety of whimsical blocks featuring birds, bees, hives, ladybugs, and trees.

Students will be shown improvisational piecing techniques to create the units of the quilt, but also encouraged to change and adapt elements to build their own one-of-a-kind flock. Fabric selection can be as easy as a favorite fat quarter bundle or a mixture of larger-sized scraps and a background fabric. Different arrangements of the blocks and options to put them together will be discussed in the workshop. This workshop celebrates creative freedom!

Workshop Description:

Take flight in this joyful 4-day retreat where improvisation meets inspiration! Join award-
winning quilt artist Marge Tucker as she guides you through creating a vibrant world filled with
fantasy birds, ladybugs, bees, hives, and trees. You’ll learn how to improvisationally piece a
variety of blocks, then mix, match, and modify them to build your own one-of-a-kind flock.

Techniques/Skills:

Improvisational piecing: master improv piecing techniques to add to your “tool-box”
Confidence in Design: to create, modify blocks, and make your own composition
How to make and use strata
Knowledgeable Guidance: Marge is a recognized fiber artist and teacher who will guide
and encourage students to expand their repertoire with improvisational piecing techniques in a relaxed atmosphere.

This class celebrates artistic freedom—no rules, just intuitive design and playful exploration.
Whether you are new to improv piecing or looking for a new quilting adventure, stitching these
bold birds, colorful trees, and intriguing insects will leave you with a truly original quilt. Let your
imagination soar—because in this flock, creativity takes wing!
