This workshop begins by looking at examples of abstract still lifes by several 20th century artists. Then, we will simplify our subjects by cutting paper shapes to play with perspective, light, shadow, and composition. By the end, we will transform our paper pictures into fabric appliqué. There is lots of room for fun and exaggerated interpretations of what we see.

This workshop will explore many classic and nontraditional ways of using shape and pattern in design. We will examine historic ornament and decorative design in the introductory lecture. Then we will do several design exercises on paper that can evolve into unique appliqué projects. This course strives to stimulate new ways to add energy and excitement to your work by playing with shapes for collage compositions. It will also supply you with a collection of unique motifs to apply later to your surface design or fiber art.

Under the Influence is a lecture of the visual and philosophical ideas that have influenced Jane and her work. There is an extra ordinary range of wonderful images. This is a very colorful lecture. Jane hopes to excite and inspire the audience by exposing them to an unusual combination of fantastic images.
Supplies are not required for a lecture, although you may want to bring a pen and paper to take notes.
